  2. It would be really helpful u could also add avg and max CTC /base

  3. Avg CTC got a lot higher compered to last year for Mtech CSE at IIT Delhi
But do you have any rough idea about base ?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Base is hard to determine. Bonuses, Variable pay of different companies are different. Moreover many don't give exact breakup during the placements. So if any one says you the base is this much, then he/she is just bluffing or approximating things.

  4. But this year's avg CTC was higher then last year was not expecting that considering covid

Still I hope one day I will also be in IIT Delhi / IISc Bangalore for Mtech CSE

    1. But is 1 year repeating worth 1 year of experience in product company? And there is always risk of not making it to to top IITs next year also!! Now what would be your answer?

    2. Hehe probably you shouldn't ask me about taking risks !!! I am mad about taking risks all the time. I left amazon offer after btech for gate. I skipped my internal exams for gate and passed the semester with only marks from final exam. Just because i was mad about getting into IIT. I would have regretted for sure if i couldn't explore IIT in this life. No money nor glamour can give you that experience of IIT. Then I left my current wells fargo job for IAS. I completed IAS syllabus but then i left IAS for entrepreneurship. Still more to go. I love exploring and challenging myself. Without that i feel dead from inside.
But yes if money is a constraint for you or you have family responsibilities then you should take calculated risks always. If not then take risks, explore possibilities. You should ask yourself where do you wish to see yourself in life. Good luck.

Try different things...See which fascinates you the most... Until you try how would you know that there existed a whole new different world just for you.....good luck.

  8. can you tells us how can we get internship in IITs for CS ?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It's bit tough to get under good and reputed professors. You have to do some really good projects and on similar lines as the professor must have been working. Delhi University students often get internships at IIT-D for instance. DU professors often refer directly the students to IITD professors. So they get easily the internships. If you don't have any such contacts then you need to approach the Professor directly with some delicious project on your plate. Don't hesitate to drop a mail to professors, because some are social workers and they love to give internships to students from poor background or tier -2 /3 colleges. So you hit them emotionally if not intellectually. Either way works !!!

    ReplyDelete

    1. Only Alphagrep allowed but didn't shortlist any. Moreover if you are into quant companies for money then you shouldn't do Mtech CS!!! Once you go for masters you esssentially develop technical specificity. So profiles with technical background are apt for a masters student.

    1. If you fill your disability during placement form fill up then it might affect your selection. You can hide it during form fill up. If you can manage this much then there is absolutely no issues. But yes if you are taking admission into iit in differently abled category then iit will by default share the same with the company.

  16. hi there,
i have done my B.tech from Electronics & Communication branch and having cgpa of 8 in b.tech , just wanted to know if it will affect campus placements in IITs for m.tech computer science??

i.e. do the companies allow mtech cse students with non-cse btech to sit in interviews?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. For some companies around 30% it will affect. Even if they allow they don't select. Rest it won't matter.

      Delete
    2. does good and high paying companies like Microsoft, Goldman Sachs , Amazon etc. come under that 30%.
or can you name some companies in that 30%?

      Delete
    3. Can't be that specific as it varies every year depending on HR's mood..haha....Still goldman sachs, alphonso, alphagrep etc...generally don't prefer. Mostly finance based organisation.... Technical companies allow. No issue in that.

Getting job is easy after iit..... 12-15lakh job within 1-2day you will get... for 20lpa+ you have to struggle a bit ....seniors prof would only help if you are cordial with them throughout the mtech journey. Still we have an alumni portal where every day around 4-5 jobs are posted bu alumni. You can easily connect and directly talk with them.

    1. Yes i totally understand it. Personal room is always what i prefer. In first year i had 2 roomates. Luckily one of them was very studious and both of them agreed to keep lights switched on alternatively as i liked studying the entire night. So where there is a will there is a way. You just have to say your hearts out to people. I also purchased earbuds from amazon to avoid unnecessary noise like vehicles moving, airplane flying etc etc. But in the end i would say, if you are in love of doing something, then no single one can disturb you.

  23. Hello Sir, thanks a lot for this blogsite you have developed, it helps us a lot. I have got AIR 56 in GATE CSE 21, and am confused about choosing between IIT D & IIT B. Do you have any comparative data or views on the same ? Thank you again.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It's absolutely ok to choose any of the two. It's like choosing between kareena and katrina !!! haha... yes low batch strength makes an advantage during placements because of less competition. But it hardly matters !!! As you will get a lot of referrals and if you are bit good at coding you can easily crack off campus interviews. Both iit's have a vast pool of alumni network. You can easily get referrals for some of the top notch companies. Be assured about that. One more advantage about less batch strength is that you get a personal connect with the professor. This is huge as even after leaving iit the prof will remember you. It helps a lot. During difficult times prof helps both morally and financially. He even can get you a PhD or a job if you face difficulty getting one.
One of my friends last year, Abhishek Panda, rank 70 got into iitd and now has converted from mtech to phd. This happens when you get personally involved with the prof. The prof used to sit during his personal hours with him making him understand basic Computer organisation things !!! This is huge as no prof will give that much time to any student normally. Not even in an year. They are really busy people !!! But in IITD as less students are there, they get some free time to spend personally with students. You won't believe but this is the most important thing. If prof becomes your friend then you won't get depressed during your mtech. He can be the best mentor you can ever imagine. If you are choosing iitd then this must be the reason. Not because of placements.

      Delete
  24. What was the batch strength? and was there 100% placements?

  25. Can I do mtech in computer science from IIT after btech in mechanical engineering? How difficult or easy to me to do mtech in cse from iit?Does it effect during placement interviews?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. You need to check individual iit's admission brochure for that. Every year they mention the eligibility clearly and update it also. It's not difficult if you are well versed with CS courses. Many electrical background students have done it also. No idea about any mechanical student though. Yes it somewhat affect during the placement. Some companies reluct to hire such candidates. You might be in the least priority zone over a CS grad student. You need to be really skillful to tackle this hurdle. Good luck !!!

      Delete
    2. Bhaiya , please tell what % of comapny dont allow and company which allow are they paying less than 2000k CTC , i also have similar doubt as i have my b.tech from mechanical department . I am really Confused , please Guide us.

      Delete
    3. Day 1 and Day 2 companies generally reluct to hire as they have a lot of options. Day 3 onwards the salaries are generally <20lpa CTC. But if you are interested for foreign placements then those come after Day 3. So if you aim for that then CTC would be around 70lpa.

    4. Bhaiya , talking about indian placements only , what's the scenario.
Should i give Gate or trysome startup do Competitive Programming ,
      what will you prefer?

      Delete
    5. If you wish to give Gate then you have to aim for top 6 IITs then only your placement would be somewhat secure. If you think you can do it, then go for Gate. It would be a bit risky though. Safe call would be to try some startup as they hire based on true talent these days ignoring the branch.

    7. @Ruturaj top 6 IITs? I heard of top 7 old IITs now which one is excluded from top 7??

      Delete
  26. Hi ruturaj. I wanted to ask does M.Tech from IIT Delhi help in any way for someone who wants to do a startup?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. IIT Delhi has incubation cell but the number of companies it can accomodate is limited to only 15. They are completely packed. Now if your startup is in line with some professors work then the prof might help you else not. So in simple words you can think that you won't get any direct benefit from iitd. Now what are the indirect benefits? You would be having a bunch of strong technical friends who can help you or become partners with you. They can also fund as all of them would be earning in plenty. You can use iitd alumni network to hire genius talents. You would be getting brand value of IIT while pitching and also promoting your startup. People would listen to you once you are from IIT. These are some of the indirect benefits i would say which would definitely help. Good luck.

  28. Hi ruturaj, I wanted to ask you is it a good idea to prepare for GATE and do M.Tech If someone's main aim is just to get placement in a product company. I'm in third year right now and 1-2 companies with 19 LPA package also comes to my college. So I wanted to ask if I get IIT for mtech and if someone from my college get that good placement. So will I be behind them in future as I will be doing mtech and they have 2-3 year of more experience than me.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. You are currently evaluating IIT only from placement point of view which is totally wrong !!! The exposure that you get at IIT is immense. The friend circle, prof interaction, work culture, managing stress, hell lot of things are there. It's like a separate world in itself. You would get lot of resources, alumni connect and what not. You would have a lot of options after Mtech like if you ever fail in life you always can be a research intern or do PhD or help in IIT startups. You can ask for financial help if you wish to start a startup of your own. You should evaluate things like this. Can you ever get these experiences ? Afterall academic life is academic life. And academic friends are the best of friends that you can ever get. In work environment don't expect anyone to be your friend. They are just colleague who compete for promotion !!! HeHe !!! Your current aim is actually limited. You want a product based company and then that's it? You should think about where you wish to see yourself at the age of 50. It's really important else once your dreams get fulfilled you will start feeling stressed and frustrated in life.

    2. How about the fields like ML/AI and Data science.. Which clg is having slight higher value for these courses?

      Delete
    3. Every college has some world renowned professors. Like IITM BRavindran is famous for Reinforcement Learning, IITD Mausam for Artificial Intelligence etc. Similarly IISC, IITK and IITB also have some world renowned profs. Data Science ML/AI all are different things. Vast area. You should research about the stream you want to go. Like artificial intelligence or machine learning or deep learning or reinforcement learning or computer vision, robotics... Depending on stream look for individual institute courses amd then decide. Every institute has some benefits in course. IiTD AI is just awesome. You can check in youtube, just search Mausam AI.

    4. Does IIT Delhi have data science course for mtech cse?

      Delete
    5. Yes you can choose any course of your choice. There is no such thing like Mtech Btech here. Here coursework type thing works. Like a prof floats or offers a course, Students register if they want to do the course. You just have to complete the required number of credits of each semester. You should give a read on this. I have written about iit curriculum in details in some post.

    9. Courses are offered each semester by the profs. Nothing is fixed. You can see the link to have an idea of courses. See this for an overall idea of courses. This is not limited as lot of other new courses are offered every semester. In Mtech you can take courses above 700 level only. Linke if a course code is col765 then level is 765 and you can take it else not. https://www.cse.iitd.ac.in/index.php/2011-12-29-22-45-50/courses

    10. What all courses did you selected?? What among them did you considered tough and easy?

      Delete
    11. Advance Data Structures and Intro to Logic and Functional programming are compulsory courses. Then i chose Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Numerical Algorithms, Parallel Programming, Cloud Computing. Machine Learning and Numerical Algorithm course were really hectic and tough. Artificial Intelligence is project hectic course but fun one. Nothing is easy !!!....Some easy courses are there comparatively like software engineering, network security systems etc. People take them if they get low on their CGPA.

    12. Sounds tough yet good.. How many totally number of courses per sem has to be opt by an individual? And what is the minimum total count of courses to be choose. BTW your blog page is loading your comments nearly after 48 hrs.. It is breaking my connection to ask more queries.

      Delete
    13. Generally one needs to do minimum 11 credits per semester. So its like doing 3 courses(4+4+3). In total you need to do 48 credits in 2 years. Major project is 14 credits and minor project is 7 credits. Not sure about the issue. May be due to lot of comments asked, it is blocking.

    1. Yes as it is new, many companies won't allow for placements. It would be bit risky. Also it is specific to cyber security domain. I have hardly seen any such company specific for cyber security domain coming to IIT Delhi. But comparing brand value IITD would be far better than NIT Warangal for Mtech Program. You can take a risk and try for off campus placements incase you don't get chance on campus. It should be your call now.

  36. can you please tell us about international offers at iit delhi like Google MTV Microsoft redmond amazon seatle and others
and how to get these international offers

    ReplyDelete

    1. Microsoft Redmond interview is taken just after you get selected for Microsoft India. Google has already setup well to do office in hyderabad and bengaluru. So it hires for India office from oncampus placements and after you gain experience sends you abroad. You can try offcampus Google though. Like one of my friends tried and he got google london. Amazon also same as google. For getting international offers a lot of things are required. First is some experience, next is you should have gone to abroad in some internships or project. This helps a lot as company wants someone who can be culturally fit abroad. So if you have gone abroad and worked for sometime then it's a win win. A very good resume and good linkedin profile to advertise yourself well. IIT alumni portal is also there. You can directly approach seniors, they will refer you but then you need to crack the interview.

So now not just your qualifications, your work should also match inline with the work at foreign universities. So i would suggest better to go for MS CS in USA if possible. You would easily get the PhD if you have done MS in US. Some of my friends currently are doing this. But yes PhD is very much research oriented, so if you have that then only go for it. Else not !!!

    4. Can you plz tell,Does class 12 marks matter in getting MS CS in US or just undergraduate GPA matters

      Delete
    5. It depends on the university selection criteria. You also need SAT and TOEFL scores. Broadly speaking yes it matter !!!

  48. how to get selected for microsoft redmond, how should i build my resume for that,

projects and development, Internships, Competitive programming, research paper, opensource, which of these matter for getting international offer

    I am 1st year 1st semester student with 93.5 class 10 , 78.5 class 12, 9.2 cgpa btech
and aiming for gate then interational offer how should i build my profile for that and what to focus on
    Please Guide me

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. None of these matter !!! You will be offered to sit for microsoft redmond only when you clear microsoft india interview rounds. So none of these matter after that. They will test, will you be compatitible with the team out there in foreign or USA. They will test your spoken english, it's very good if you can understand their accent and also talk in american accent a bit. You should be bit aware of the foreign culture. If you previously had visited USA or had any internships there then it will be a win win for you !!! If in any open source contribution you were developing with an USA team with much exposure then also it is a plus. So in simple words they will only judge if you would be fit in USA or not. Language, Personality, cultural fit, how you collaborate and behavioural aspect would be tested.

  49. then should i give toefl or ielts will it be a plus on my resume
and how to prepare for these interviews, you also had google offcampus offer

should i focus on competitive programming or leetcode

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. These are behavioural interviews so watching an english movie and learning the accent and culture would be more helpful than writing a tons of exams !!! Yes leetcode is must. Don't do random questions on leetcode. Buy the premium one and only focus company specific question. Google, Microsoft and Facebook questions is all you need to do. That would be enough. Don't try to do a hundred of questions and ultimately loose your self confidence in the main interview because you won't be able to recall all of them for sure. You won't believe how simple basic questions they ask. Just do the leet code questions of google you will have a basic idea of it.

      Delete
    2. and how to get offcampus offers like you got and is competitve programming neccesary and what are the benefits of Competitive programming

      Delete
    3. Just have a very good linkedin profile. Mention the right keywords throughout your profile. Recruiters will automatically reach you. In my case this happened. Alternative way is to approach a senior and ask to refer you. In that case also your interview would be scheduled right away. So when you are in IIT getting an interview is really easy. You can google and see my resume. It's there in my iitd webpage. just google ruturaj iitd. You can get an idea of resume that you need to make. I hope you are aware of the recent github ai updates. You don't need to be a hard code coder anymore. Time has changed. You just type fibo and fibo code is ready for you. So competitive programming has slowly started to vanish. Better focus on system and desgin oriented questions. They are very important. Like they can ask how would you design netflix? These will actually test you understanding skills. Some companies like facebook even ask embedded systems level questions. For google microsoft normal leetcode coding questions are enough.

    4. I am in 1st year 1st semester, then what should i do apart from targeting GATE to improve my resume

    5. Don't run after internships, coding competitions and all sort of fancy things to decorate your resume. If you want to stand out of the crowd identify one common problem of the society first. Learn all the skill sets required to solve the problem. Solve the problem. Mention your entire journey in your resume. How you identified the problem, how you solved it, what were the challenges faced etc etc. Just one thing and you would be in USA. Identifying problem is crucial. You should discuss your ideas with trustable friends and then read current progress in that area and work accordingly. Like today facebook released audio to text speech language model where you can train a model just by your audio. You don't need raw text input anymore. So there was a problem and they tried to solve it. There are tons of problems around us. We see but never notice. Start small and then gradually progress deeper. Learn throughout the journey. https://ai.facebook.com/ You can read some of the fancy stuffs that facebook is doing here. Go for it !!!

    6. which means should i focus more on development part like app or website etc. to solve real world problems and learn new things on the way

and you told earlier that foreign internships will be beneficial to get foreign offers. I wanted to ask can i get foreign internship during my Mtech at iit.
either research internship or industry internship in foreign countries. Is it possible

      Delete
    7. Nopes officially internships aren't allowed in mtech program. People generally do internships sidewise in india only. You would have lot of work to do in mtech. Do underestimate the work load of iit. People suicide for a reason !!! haha...When you try to solve a real world problem, you will automatically see the need to develop an app, a website, train ml models, a forum etc etc. When the need will arise you will learn the things. In this way you skills will get updated, your btech major project would be completed, you will have quality content to right in your resume, you might get an offer directly after btech.

    8. mtech iit students even have work load in summer vacations!!!

and the last thing is how to identify these real life problems should i follow any particular website for tech updates

if i develop a app should i deploy that to google playstore and mention downloads too will it benefit my resume and will help me to standout even in iit

      Delete
    9. Just look around yourself with a knowledge sight you will get a lot of problems. See how people get cheated...see how people suffer...what can you do to make their lives better...You can also see foreign cities in youtube and compare it with india and see whats missing...No book or tech website is going to teach you how to identify real world problems. You are in the world. Look around !!! There are tons !!!!

    10. e.g. blockchain technology can be used for voting in elections or removal of corruption.
and should i make a project or write a research paper on this

and is this better path than competitive programming ?

and last thing you told somewhere that you tried for GSOC but didn't got selected, should i also try for open source like GSOC or should focus completely on projects

      Delete
    11. Projects !!! Gsoc doesn't matter much as far i have seen from my friends resume. Many had gsocs but didn't get that much attention. Do a project instead. Election voting is good but it involves regulatory things. Try to do a project which has less regulatory things. Like dont try to build a atom bomb !!! Even though it would help india it would require regulatory clearances. I have already said you that project will teach you everything which includes competitive programming too. You would be able to implement algorithms in real world problems. That's what is needed not that whether you can sort numbers in O(n) time or not !!!

      Delete
    12. Also dont decide the project so soon. Project selection is a very important task. Take atleast 1 month of time to select the project. Read stuffs, have a hangout of things.

    13. 1 can you tell some
Stuffs like websites etc to get updated with tech word
and can i take inspiration from github too for projects

2 can you make a blog regarding best sources and also from where did you learn things like DSA , ML, AI, Deep learning, Blockchain, web dev, Android dev etc

3 you told somewhere btech projects don't matter in iit is it true

BTW we had such a long chat it is time to introduce myself haha

I am Naman and thanks for guiding me

    14. I dont like to spoon feed things...you should see the past gsoc projects.. facebook research link that i shared...microsoft research....google research......google deepminds...just google it... everything is there,,,, one way will take you to another,,,,,from one link you will explore several other links...explore the possibilities first... I am really busy now a days with lot of work ahead. May be sometime in future but not any sooner i can make any more blogs. Yes because most of the btech projects are completely useless just copied things. But if you make a difference it will make a difference !!!

  50. Sir , I am not able to do 7+ cgpa in 1st sem in iit delhi . I might even fail a subject or semester . It was because I got COVID and dengue both so my 3 weeks were wasted and I couldn't give exams and do assignments properly. Professors also were not understanding , some directly gave 0. Now , I don't know what to do? Is it possible to get good placement > 10 lpa with low cgpa? I just got joining from tcs digital 7 lpa but I have seen people ruining their careers in tcs. But my parents have seen my situation , my struggle and hardwork to cope up and professors attitude so they are supporting me to leave iit and join tcs. But I am feeling very depressed and suicidal because I worked very hard to get into iit and everything is ruined. Is there any hope that if I continue my degree I can get a good job from campus? Please reply . I am really in a bad position . Please help.

    1. First of all realise that you are not the first to go through this in iit. Many before you have gone through this including me. Professors have no hearts !!! I have seen a 1st year btech girl committing suicide from LHC. The whole institute trembled and then after few days same thing continued. No one gives a shit even if you die. Nothing is gonna change. You are not an iitian because of any professor. You are an iitian because you deserved it. So behave like an iitian. Problem is there before you, you need to learn to solve it. One of my friends had similar situation in IITM, so he dropped after 1st year and again using gate score rejoined IITM. Now he is doing pretty well. Many if past seniors have dropped from IIT and started their startup. They are also doing well now. Imagine life is a very interesting journey. You are just a player in it. You need to travel it. You will fall but you have to rise and move again.

    1. US avg software salary is 150,000 dollar per annum. So if you multiply it with 74 it will be easily above 1cr. But you need to think it in perspective of US. The cost of living would be very high compared to India. If you get 40-50lpa in India you can maintain a very luxurious lifestyle. So now you should decide whether you want 1cr just to showoff or you want 40-50lpa in India and enjoy the life. And yes as a Mtech you can easily get US offers. There are plenty. But usually people choose to stay in India.
